Introduction
LesstanoL brand Policosanol-D is an all natural vegetable wax extract of 96% aliphatic primary alcohols standardized to a minimum of 90% n-docosanol.

Benefits
Topical 10% docosanol formulations have been clinically proven to significantly reduce the duration of symptoms and healing time for herpes simplex labialis virus(HSLV) lesions commonly known as cold sores. Docosanol is the only FDA approved topical treatment for HSLV lesions and is the focus of other studies aimed at revealing its potential inhibitory action on other viruses.

Advantages
Natural vegetable waxes are non-toxic and for topical applications on or around the mouth pose no ingestion hazard. Well documented toxicity studies have shown no effect up to 2000mg/kg bw.
Policosanol-D is an all natural extract and contains no synthetic ingredients or by-products.

Regulatory
Docosanol is FDA approved for topical treatment of HSLV lesion and as an Organic Food Ingredient under NOP 205-605, vegetable waxes.

Characteristics and Stability
Policosanol-D is a very stable wax which mixes readily with other lipophillic ingredients and can be micronized or emulsified. It is also available in a variety of bases for topical formulation. It has a shelf life in excess of two years.

Packaging
This raw material is packed in 1 kg, 2 kg and 5 kg sealed polyethylene-lined bags in cardboard boxes.

Potential
Currently Docosanol has demonstrated in-vitro inhibitory effects against: Herpes Simplex Virus 1 and 2, Varicella -Zoster Virus, Influenza-A, Human Herpes Virus-6, Cytomegalovirus, Respiratory Syncytial Virus and Human Immunodeficiency Virus.      Docosanol spontaneously fuses to the eukaryotic plasma membrane which inhibits the proper integration of lipid-enveloped viruses thus preventing migration to the nucleus.
